Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 14, 2026

Welcome to Prelumo. We are a global tutoring marketplace that connects students with qualified tutors for in-person and online learning sessions. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform.

By using Prelumo, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our services.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, as well as information generated through your use of our platform.

Personal Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, profile photo, and account credentials. Tutors also provide professional qualifications, teaching experience, and verification documents.

Tutoring Information

We collect information about subjects taught, qualifications, hourly rates, availability schedules, session preferences (online/in-person), and session notes including homework assignments and progress tracking data.

Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with our platform, including pages visited, search queries, booking history, session attendance, time spent on the platform, device information, browser type, and IP address.

Payment Information

When you make or receive payments, we collect transaction details. Payment card information is processed securely by our payment processor (Stripe) and is not stored on our servers. We retain transaction history for accounting and dispute resolution purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Matching and Discovery: To help students find suitable tutors based on subjects, location, availability, and preferences.
  • Payment Processing: To facilitate secure payments between students and tutors, process refunds, and manage tutor payouts.
  • Safety and Trust: To verify tutor identities and qualifications, detect fraudulent activity, resolve disputes, and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Communications: To send booking confirmations, session reminders, payment receipts, platform updates, and respond to your inquiries.
  • Platform Improvement: To analyze usage patterns, improve our services, develop new features, and personalize your experience.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

With Tutors and Students

When you book a session, we share necessary information between parties to facilitate the tutoring session. This includes names, profile photos, contact information (after booking), and session details. Tutors can see student learning goals; students can see tutor qualifications.

Payment Processors

We share payment information with Stripe, our payment processor, to facilitate transactions. Stripe's use of your information is governed by their privacy policy. We also share payout information with tutors' connected bank accounts.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Prelumo, our users, or others.

Service Providers

We work with third-party service providers for hosting, analytics, email delivery, and customer support. These providers have access only to information necessary to perform their services and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • All data transmitted to and from our platform is encrypted using TLS/SSL encryption.
  • Sensitive data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption.
  • Payment information is processed through PCI-DSS compliant systems.
  • Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments are conducted.
  • Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Location Data

Location privacy is a core principle at Prelumo. We handle location data as follows:

Public Display

Only approximate location information (city, neighborhood, or general area) is shown publicly on tutor profiles. This helps students find tutors nearby without revealing exact addresses.

Address Sharing

Precise addresses for in-person sessions are only shared between parties after a booking is confirmed and payment is processed. This protects both tutors and students until a legitimate session is arranged.

6. Messaging and Anti-Scam Protections

To maintain a safe marketplace and protect users from fraud, we implement messaging controls:

  • Content Filtering: Messages are scanned for potentially harmful content, scam patterns, and attempts to circumvent our platform.
  • Blocked Patterns: Until a first paid booking is completed, certain content is restricted including external contact information, payment links, and suspicious URLs.
  • Message Retention: We retain messages for dispute resolution and safety investigations. Messages may be reviewed by our trust and safety team if a report is filed.

These measures help prevent scams and ensure that genuine tutoring relationships are established through our platform.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. We honor these rights for all users globally, in compliance with GDPR and similar regulations:

Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
